My national costume for Miss Universe 2014 will resemble the important figure of Lucia. For Centuries, during the winter-light festival, Lucia who was originally a Saint by the name of Saint Lucy, has been celebrated on December 13th, during the darkest time of the year.

In these sometimes dark times in the world where we see violence, hate, crime, terror, war, inequality, poverty, sorrow and pain. We want to spread out the message of compassion and light among human beings. We wish to inspire people to choose light over darkness, and to choose love and compassion over hate and violence.

I’m very honoured to announce that I am an ambassador for the wonderful organisation Operation Orphan, a charity designed to bring a brighter future for orphans and vulnerable children around the world. I have travelled with them a few weeks ago to Eastern Slovakia to see the incredible work they do first hand. We visited refugee camps and gave out warm clothing to children for the cold winter months. What is unique about the charity is that 100% of the donations go directly to the children. I hope to be able to work with them long term and to help them in every way I can to make a difference to these childrens lives.
